Computing Data and Society Program Fellows
As computing and data science permeate nearly every aspect of business, research, and social enterprise, there is an increasing need to explore how to harness and leverage these technologies in responsible, equitable, and ethical ways. The Caltech Computing + Mathematical Sciences (CMS) department has launched a new postdoctoral cohort program—the Computing Data and Society Program (CDSP) Fellows—to navigate new challenges and opportunities presented by the rapid acceleration of data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Building on Caltech's small size and distinctive culture of multidisciplinary inquiry, research, and innovation, fellows will forge new connections across the Institute, increase the footprint and magnify the influence of CMS, and infuse the curriculum with new courses. The program also will help recruit, retain, and inspire the next generation of students and scientists who are interested in real-world impact.
Thanks to the generosity of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) Council members, the Computing Data and Society Postdoctoral Fellowship Fund was launched in early 2022. Contributions to the fund will enable Caltech to move nimbly into newly developing research areas in computing and data science with strong connections to real-world problems and societal challenges. CDSP Fellows will pursue cutting-edge research with a direct impact on areas such as the ethical and equitable application of AI, privacy and security, climate change, transportation, medicine, government, and more.
